1 Star Do not trust your camera to this! I lost $1,115 ruined.
I used this “waterproof” camera bag two times. Prior to use, we tested it exactly as recommended (it passed) and were very careful to follow instructions with it. It held up fine for the first use on a family trip to the beach, and was even taken a few times into the water. But on the second trip out with it, simply to a pool, where it was never taken under the water’s surface: It leaked. My brand new Canon Digital Rebel T1i (had less than a month) with one of my favorite lenses on it, and SDHC card, all ruined at a cost to me of $1,115. Boy, I regret buying this product. It will be a long time before I am able to replace all that, and the camera was brand new.

4 Stars Fine if used cautiously.
First off, I’m going to say that I would not use this product if I did not have a warranty on my camera.

Overall I found it simple to use. Sure, it was kind of difficult to change the mode and get the camera to focus, but it was fine for snapshots when I was wading and photos of my friend underwater. It’s a really big case. Like huge. One thing I discovered is that you can shove other things in it besides the camera. I kept my cell phone and ID tucked in the bag so I didn’t have to worry about leaving them on shore. That was a nice plus, but sometimes they got in the way of shooting.

The main thing to remember about the case is that you need to first, test it, and then double check it before you take it into the water…EVERY TIME. If you notice the bag fogging up, get out of the water. I didn’t check mine the sixth time I used it and there was a leak. The camera was still working, but the case was too foggy to use it. Little did I know that was because it was filling up with water. Fun times. Now I’m waiting for my camera to be fixed and it’s a loooong wait.

So, be cautious of this product. If you’re careful you should be fine. You can never be too careful, and it’s worth it to take that extra couple of minutes to check the case. After that, have fun and see what you can do with it! Underwater cases are amazing things.

2 Stars tested at home, but wouldn’t trust in the ocean
I tested the pack twice at home in my bathtub and found at least 1 drop of water on the inside both times. I even had another shipped to me from amazon and tested it again… same result. I’m sure it would work fine, but I ended up returning it because I would never feel comfortable using it in the ocean w/ my camera at risk.

4 Stars Great overall
Overall, this is a great product and allows you to take stunning underwater photos (way better than a waterproof point and shoot) It does take some getting used to though, and it’s main drawback (as has been noted by other reviewers) is , because of the unneccesary hard plastic casing over the lens area, the lack of the ability to move the zoom ring on the barrel of a standard SLR lens. This drawback in itself will affect sales. Dicapac should do two things. Keep this model for people who want to use it for large zoom lenses-where you can move the zoom- and make another model which has a soft plastic casing over the lens area which would allow the zoom to be used on a smaller standard lens. I I sympathise with the guy who said he had a leak with hi product but I think this is very rare other wise there’d be lots of such stories on the internet (which there isn’t. I did some research before buying this) But in general this is essential for ocean shots, swim shots, pool shots, rain shots, etc etc. A slightly flawed but excellent product, and it’s a great price too

5 Stars just what I wanted
Perfect for what I wanted. Keeps the camera safe from water(just be careful when you unpack it cause water will fall in). I read it was difficult to change settings when it is in the bag, but I didn’t have too much difficultly doing that. I tested it out like the instructions said with a paper towel in the bag and submerged and it came out clean. A nice waterproof case on budget.

    5 Stars Awesome fast shipment
I got mine within 3 days of order. Good quality so far on the product. It’s a little hard to press the buttons but it’s ok.

5 Stars It works and you can’t beat the price!
I really wanted to be able to take underwater pictures on our family vacation to Hawaii but didn’t want to pay $200 for a case but then I came across this and I was unsure about putting my camera in something that was $30 but I was very satisfied with it! It worked perfectly and there were only a few where you could see the black ring in the corner and I was surprised to see that it could pick up sound! I would defiantly recommend this to a friend.

Side note: I bought mine from waterproof camera cases and the shipping was extremely fast(standard shipping) and their website was very helpful to find the right case for my camera.

    5 Stars Great Value
This really works! We used it on a vacation to Mexico, and it was great at keeping sand out of the camera and taking pool and beach photos. I took it snorkeling and it worked great.

4 Stars Soft Protection – For Snorkeling Only
For the price, it’s not a bad accessory, but since I paid over $150 for my Canon PowerShot SD1100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver), it was a little flimsy. I expected more protection. It is waterproof, however. Simply open the pouch, insert your camera, so the lens is over the lens cover, squeeze the zip-lock seal, roll the plastic up about an inch or more and Velcro it shut. Then another Velcro patch seals it for extra protection. The camera functions are easy to manipulate through the clear plastic. The only drawback is that there is a chance for humidity in the pouch and it is simply a soft plastic other than the lens cover which is a screw-on hard plastic. For protection of your Canon PowerShot SD1100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver), I would recommend the Canon WP-DC22 Waterproof Case for Canon PowerShot SD1100IS Digital Elph, which goes as far as you want for SCUBA and is a hard plastic enclosure for full protection. If you want an inexpensive enclosure for snorkeling, this might work for you.

    4 Stars Pretty good!
Took this snorkeling and boating last weekend, and it worked great for my Casio. If you check the manufacturer’s website, they have a list of all the cameras that each model case works with. That’s how I selected the right one for me. I did the waterproof test in my sink first, and had no problems with leaking during my trip. The only complaints I have are the same ones I read here before buying it: the buttons can be difficult to press through the case, the lens cover sometimes blocks part of the camera lens if it’s not lined up right (hard to see in the sun), and in my case, the wrist strap of my camera migrated around the case and got in my way a couple of times. Definitely a great value for the price I paid, though. None of the complaints I had were enough to make me unhappy with my purchase.

      5 Stars Near Perfect
This is the second underwater housing unit for a canon digital camera that I’ve had. I bought this just in time for a 1 week cruise to the caribbean and got a lot of use out of it. It does pretty much what it says it does, nothing to surprising, but a couple of improvements since the last one I had (for my Powershot S50):

      - size. Obviously the camera is smaller, so the housing is going to be smaller, but still, I give credit to Canon for making the housing no bigger than it has to be so you can still enjoy the relative small size you bought the camera for

      - Clarity. This is an improvement of both the case and the camera itself, but w/ my old one, the LCD screen could very hard to see even in clear Caribbean waters. The plastic on this case seems a bit more trnaslucent, possibly thinner due to it’s overall size. The improved LCD on the SD 780IS (which is fantastic by the way, along w/ the camera itself) also helps. Either way, it’s much easier to see what you’re about to shoot. I was able to get some great shots w/ it. If I can remember, I’ll try to post some examples.

      - Flash Diffuser. I recently took a course in photography and have learned a lot about lighting , including the benefits of a diffuser, so was very happy to see that this housing has one, which the old one did not. It’s amazing how much difference it makes!! All the shots which required a flash look naturally lit, none of the harsh defined shadows I would get before. This can be the difference between a beautiful shot and one that gets deleted. Also, keep in mind that this camera housing is also useful above water too, for times when you take it to the beach and just want to protect the camera – I took a lot of land shots where the diffuser really helped the flash as well.

Overall, if you like to SCUBA dive, snorkel, or any other activity needing protection from the water, this is a must have!! Do not waste your time and money on cheap disposable underwater cameras that can’t come close to the quality the SD 780 can deliver. By the time you do that a couple of times, and get your film developed, your well on your way to buying this case and having MUCH better pictures (not to mention video) to show for it.

4 Stars Near perfect but scraches way to easily.
I got this case so I could try taking photos in wet conditions and while scuba diving.

For scuba diving I found this case to be ideal. Easy to seal up, all controls functioned nicely though the case. Very good picture quality.

However I can’t give this case five stars because how how quickly I scratched up the back of the case. Just against a shirt using the neck strap I got some significant scratches that made the screen very difficult to see though the case. I don’t know if they can be removed, but many more scratches and I’ll have to declare the case unusable because the screen would be too obscured to see what your photographing clearly.

Canon needs to provide a method to prevent scratches perhaps with a protection film or something that can be applied to the back of the case.

4 Stars Good product but I was double billed
The underwater case is great and so is the little Canon camera. The problem is I was billed twice for the same product. I am trying to get it resolved.

4 Stars Great except for one teeny weeny detail…
This is an outstanding camera housing, but I have one complaint (and I do realize that I am to blame, but still) – with the teeny string that attaches the diffuser to the case (to prevent it from being lost if it should come off), I accidentally managed to get that caught in the seal while preparing for a night dive, and at 45 feet the seal popped and flooded the case.

Don’t get me wrong, this is an outstanding case (see other reviews) but I would rather have a piece of rubber several mm thick to make a strap to hold it, to ensure that if it does get caught, it is noticeable before the point of no return… I can’t be the only person that this has happened to! :S

      5 Stars Wow. Perfection.
I really can’t say enough about this case. It’s the perfect way to take pictures underwater.

As a serious photographer, I always want to have my best cameras with me wherever I go. And that’s fine, except that I’m also an avid kayaker. And as much as I love bringing my Canon EOS 5D Mark II and lenses with me, the waterproof camera bag I have for it is difficult to maneuver, unwieldy, and using the buttons through the PVC is nigh impossible. So the 5D2 can come with me in calm waters where I can stuff it under a towel and be reasonably sure that its safe, but in harsher conditions I needed a better option. The closest thing you can get to a case like the WP-DC31 for a full-size DSLR is the Ikelite housing, which runs a whopping $1500 plus several hundred more for the lens ports!

So here we are. I picked up an SD780 IS and this waterproof case. Why not just an underwater camera? A couple of reasons: Underwater cameras can’t even come close to the image quality of a decent normal camera. Also, as of this review there is no underwater camera that supports HD video.

This case is better than I ever would have imagined. It is SOLID. High quality materials throughout, and absolutely no flex. The hinges are strong, and the seals are tight. Every single button and switch on the camera can be used through the case. The clear areas of the case are VERY clear, and you can see every detail through it. There is zero loss of detail when viewing the LCD. It’s truly amazing.

The camera fits with absolute perfect precision. Once in the case, its position is absolutely fixed, and a soft piece at the rear of the case protects the camera from any jarring movements that the case might experience while under normal operating conditions. A similar soft rubbery ring surrounds the lens port on the front of the camera.

The glass that the lens looks through is a high quality coated photographic glass, which is extremely important to maintain the level of detail that the camera would be capable of outside the case.

The diffuser is a nice touch, as the case can sometimes cast a shadow in your image when using the naked flash. The diffuser corrects this, and also creates a more subtle, even light on the subject.

When it comes to video, sound can still travel through the case, but it’s at an understandably lower intensity above water. In the water, on the other hand, the sound travels much better. You really have to try it!

The case comes with a wrist strap, a reflective neck strap, and a small bottle of lubricant for the seal. I haven’t used the neck strap, because the wrist strap has been fine for me.

This is easily THE best accessory I have ever bought for any of my point & shoot cameras. Now, if Canon would only make them for their DSLR’s at a similar price point! :-)

DicaPac WP310 160x105mm Medium Alfa Waterproof Digital Camera Case with Optical Lens Clear

        Dicapac WP310 Dicapac WP-310 Waterproof Underwater Case 6.5in. X 4.13in..

        User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Great for the price
Excellent water protection. Used on 200 mile kayak trip with a canon SD970IS. Only problem was that the lens on the case prevented use of the telephoto lens on the camera. Clearance was just enough to use the camera lense in it’s standard position. Care must be taken to assure the lense stays lined up while the camera is turning on or it will power back down. Buttons were easy to access through case. It would be nice if the lense on the case would retract – it sticks out approx 2-3 inches – defeating some of the compactness of a compact camera.

        3 Stars narrow lens port
The lens port is too narrow that creates black rings on photos. You can adjust to avoid the black rings through looking at the lcd screen to make sure all four corners of the picture doesn’t have black rings, but that is diffuclt to do that when the lcd screen is difficult to see—when it’s bright and sunny, dark, or just in a rush.

It is also difficult to adjust the dial on camera (I have a Sony DSC P200).

The idea is great. The waterproof/dustproof works. It is handy and it’s affordable. The lens is clear and can take great pictures like as if it is not there unless if there’s waterspots. If the lens is wider to avoid black rings and if there’s a way that I can adjust the dial easy, I’d rate this product a 5. I use this mainly for Guam Boonie Stomps where it rains a lot during hiking, where we cross deep and shallow river/falls, and where I use it for snorkeling on a hard to reach places.

5 Stars Perfect alternative to expensive hard cases
I agree with everything Lowell Carter said. I bought this for a Caribbean cruise and didnt want to spend $150 for a hard case. It fit the Canon Powershot SD890IS perfectly. The only gripe I have is being able to zoom…it’s quite difficult with the Canon, but otherwise I’m really glad I bought this for our trip. it was great for the beach as well to simply keep sand out of the camera. you can just unscrew the lens cap to avoid any of the black rings being in your pics when you are on dry land.

        5 Stars Perfect for snorkeling
What a wonderful alternative to taking underwater pictures. I was looking into purchasing underwater housing case for my Sony Cybershot DSCW100 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3 x Optical Zoom which would of cost me almost $200 and I was also looking at underwater cameras which are way too expensive for me to consider. This is a terrific way to protect your camera from water, sand and even snow. I quickly tried it at home when I received it and YES BY GOLLY no water or moisture was inside the case! The optical lens sometimes does interfere with the camera’s zooms lens. Check out the pictures I posted so you can see for yourself how crystal clear the pictures look. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Here is something I found that was helpful since the description does not list the camera’s that are compatible:

DicaPac WP310 Case will fit the following brands:

        CANON:

        IXUS 970IS/960IS/950IS/900Ti/800IS/750/700/500/430

        IXY 500/600/700/800IS/810IS/820IS/1000/2000IS

        POWERSHOT SD 500/550/700IS/850IS/890IS/900/950IS/S500/410

        CASIO:

        Exlilim

        QV-R 3/4/40/41/51/61

        EX-Z 10/100/110/120/200

        PENTEX:

        Optio 30/50/60/330/430/300RS/430RS/E30/T30/X/S40/45/50/55/60

        SONY:

        CYBERSHOT DSC P100/120//150/200/W100/S800

I only listed a few of the camera brands but I was able to find the entire list on the company’s website – which by the way sells the cases for much more than Amazon’s price.

3 Stars The case seems fine BUT the User Manual …
I have not gotten the case wet yet so I can not speak about the handiness or picture quality or waterproofness of the case. I can see that the picture can have a black ring if the camera is not resonable centered, since there is nothing to keep the camera centered this will have to be watched.

The “Directions and Cautions” take me back 30 or 40 years when instructions for any item made in Japan or China were allways a hoot and barely comprehesible.

I get the gerneral jest of the instructions but there are a few missing details:

What is the “UP-RING” for and how does one use it?

        The instructions start with:

“notes) This Product desires that stick out of lens uses electively to only long some didgital camera that Dicapac hard packing lenght.”

Please if any one can decifer this I sure would like to know what it says and if I need to use the “UP-RING”.

How does one use the lanyard, it is totally un-intuitive. I am a very mechinical kind of guy and I haven’t the slightest I dear how to hitch up the lanyard to the case. It does appear to be rather short so I will probable use a old landyard with a clip.

Well I am heading for a Caribean cruise and some snorkelling hope fully I will get some great phots.
